Writing for CBS MoneyWatch.com (7/13), Steve Vernon says, “There’s no simple answer to the question of whether you should buy long-term care insurance.” Vernon adds, “There are two primary reasons you may need long-term care in your future. The first is health-related: If you’re in poor health and can’t take care of yourself, you’re going to have to find some help. … The other primary reason you may need such care has to do with the availability of family or friends who can help take care of you when you need it.” Vernon notes, “A report last year by the National Alliance for Caregiving in collaboration with AARP found that just one in five caregivers had their care recipient living with them.” Therefore, most people may need to purchase long-term care insurance.
